The Commission on the Deaf and Hearing Impaired provides the following counseling services:
- individual
- marital
- family
- group counseling
- case management
Who can receive counseling service?
- Connecticut residents who are deaf or hard of hearing and their family members. Including foreign born non-ASL users.
Counselors communicate in American Sign Language, Signed English, and spoken English. Accommodations will be made for individuals requiring communication in other languages upon request.
What type of problems can counselors help with?
- Emotional problems
- Stress
- Problems accepting and coping with your hearing loss
- Personal losses such as a death in the family
- Life skills and other practical issues
- Difficulties at school, home, or work
- Alcohol or drug abuse, etc.
- Crisis Intervention
Our Counseling Department provides information and referral on questions related to hearing loss and services that are available statewide.

Adult Basic Education for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired (ABE)
This course is for deaf or hearing impaired adults who need to learn or improve basic skills in reading, writing, or math. Interested West Hartford residents may enroll at any time during the semester.
